ACAOM Announces New Commissioner [31 Aug 2021]
EDEN PRAIRIE, MN, August 31, 2021 – – The Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) is pleased to announce the election of Robert Hoffman, DAOM, L.Ac as an Academic-Educator member of the Commission.
Dr. Hoffman is currently the dean of the doctoral program at Yo San University, where he also serves on both the master’s and doctoral faculties. For the past year he has also served as the doctoral program’s interim clinical dean. In these roles, Dr. Hoffman is responsible for curriculum development, faculty recruitment and development, and assessment of accreditation standards.
Dr. Hoffman received his master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Yo San University, and completed his doctoral degree (DAOM) at Five Branches University in San Jose. In addition, he is currently a PhD candidate at Zhejiang Chinese Medicine University in Hangzhou, China. Dr. Hoffman travels to China several times a year for additional study and clinical rotations at the Zhejiang Chinese Medicine University Hospital and other area out-patient clinics. His current research is in the use of mushrooms as adjuvant therapy in cancer treatment, and the role of Chinese herbs in T cell regulation.
Dr. Hoffman has written numerous articles on Daoism and Chinese medicine, and serves as editor and peer reviewer for several integrative medicine journals. In addition to his formal education, Dr. Hoffman has also been studying Daoism in the Quanzhen Longmen tradition with Josh Paynter and Jack Schaefer of Parting Clouds.
Prior to his career in Chinese medicine, Dr. Hoffman spent over 25 years in the music industry as a producer, songwriter and recording engineer working with artists such as Christina Aguilera, Michael Jackson, and Quincy Jones. He still produces and mixes for artists around the world.
