ACAHM office closed 11 October 2021 [Indigenous Peoples’ Day]

ACAHM’s office will be closed on Monday, 11 October 2021, in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

The state of Minnesota sits within the homelands of the Dakota and Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) people. Seven Ojibwe reservations and four Dakota communities constitute the state’s eleven federally-recognized tribes. The Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul are home to one of the largest urban American Indian populations in the US, and they support a thriving community of Native artists, writers, musicians, activists, scholars, and chefs. American Indian activism ignited in the Twin Cities with the founding of the American Indian Movement in the late 1960’s, and this spirit of activism continues today.

Indigenous People’s Day has been proclaimed a holiday by the City of Minneapolis since 2012, and by the State of Minnesota since 2019. Read this year’s State of Minnesota proclamation by Gov. Tim Walz and Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan (enrolled member, White Earth Band of Ojibwe).
