Call for Public Comment - draft standards for graduate certificate program in medical translation
At its 10-12 February 2025 meeting, the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (“ACAHM” or “Commission”) considered modifications to its Comprehensive Standards and Criteria (“Standards”). Before making any changes to its Standards, ACAHM is providing notice to all relevant stakeholders and constituencies (“interested parties”) of the proposed change and giving the interested parties adequate opportunity to comment on the proposed change. ACAHM will use the input received to help inform its final decision.
PROPOSED REVISION
In response to interest from its stakeholders, the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal (ACAHM) has begun the development of accreditation standards for a graduate certificate program in medical translation. This program is intended to train individuals to access medical text in a source language (e.g., Mandarin Chinese, Korean, Japanese, English) and translate the content into another target language through faculty mentorship and independent translation projects.
Points of note:
Familiarity with East Asian medicine is not necessarily an admissions requirement to pursue the program. This would be a stand-alone graduate certificate program.
Draft standards propose minimum requirements. Programs may opt to exceed ACAHM minimum requirements.
Draft standards do not specify source or target language(s) allowing programs to determine which source and target language(s) to address.
